Cops step back on parade plan

The NYPD backed off proposed regulations that would have required a parade permit for any event where two or more people gathered in the street.The NYPD also dropped plans to require groups of 35 people or more to get a permit if they planned to gather on city sidewalks. No reference to sidewalks will be in any new proposal, Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne said yesterday.

A public hearing set for Wednesday will be rescheduled when the regulation language is finalized.
