Getting back to original idea

Crain's, Letter to the Editor

The concept of eminent domain was originally intended for the benefit of the masses, not the enrichment of a developer. Consider the use of eminent domain to build the Long Island Expressway. Homes were taken along the route for its construction, but millions of people per year benefit from its use, and it is absolutely essential to our geographic region.

It is hard to believe that in civilized society in the United States anyone would entertain the thought of private developers confiscating the property of other private citizens. I certainly hope that "justice for all" wins the day over the greed of the powerful.
