Council Member Letitia James and Senator Velmanette Montgomery to hold press conference Sunday in response to Memorandum of Understanding on Atlantic Yards

Agreement signed between Ratner and the city/state but MTA reserves the right to sell to higher bidders

(Brooklyn, NY) –Council Member James and Senator Montgomery will be joined by community members at a press conference on Sunday responding to the announcement of a Memorandum of Understanding between Forest City Ratner and the city and state. The elected officials who represent the Prospect Heights area that would be condemned to make room for Ratner's $2.5 billion project will be joined by the Pratt Area Community Council, Darnell Canada of Rebuild, Bob Law and others.

"The Administration has made it clear that they care more about building sports facilities than they do about building schools. We're facing over a billion dollars in cuts to the education budget. Yet the Administration can find hundreds of millions of dollars for the Nets and Jets," said Council Member James.

"This agreement is non-binding. This is a PR stunt to convince the public that the arena and skyscraper complex is a done deal. That is far from the truth. The MTA reserved the right to sell the land to a higher bidder. Just like with the West Side stadium, we need open bidding to get fair value for this land." Senator Montgomery stated.
